EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT
I like millions of other football fans around the world love and admire the current Barcelona team, but in recent times I have become puzzled by how football easily becomes addicted to the current successful trends. The current trend is for small skilful players as dominating the current Barcelona team but if you look back not so long ago when the Arsene Wenger invincible team were winning the premier league the demand was for tall strong athletic players. This then lead to many young potential footballers being turned down by football clubs because the wouldn't be tall or athletic enough. Sadly many of these players if they were coming through the ranks today would have been gratefully given professional contracts.
Scouts are now scouring the world for this current trend of player but I can't help but wonder by the time these teenagers come to be near first team football will the world have moved on again. I now hear football fans moaning about how there should be no place in a modern team for a target man. Does this mean if you are born over six foot in height you are no longer desired to play football. Or if you do wish to play you can only play as a defender. In my opinion there is space for all types of players and just because you are tall and strong that you cannot be a top pedigree striker. Surely fans enjoy watching their striker attacking a cross to power home a header or holding off two defenders and then linking up with his midfield just as much as a fine moment of skill or a elegant pass.
In reality a winning football team is a successful blend of many different ingredients. And this blend which can take many forms then needs to be harnessed by an inspiring and motivating manager to hopefully achieve success. Sadly there is no instant fix and building a good team takes time, something most football fans will not give their team or manager in current times.
The simply answer is the football world only copies teams at that moment in time that are winning trophies. But the real answer is you can win football matches in many ways and many different styles but if there was one definate answer there are 99% of the managers in the world still searching for it.
