THE WHEEL OF FORTUNE...

After another round of Saturday fixtures passes us and the season comes ever closer to finishing we have been left with even more questions than answers.  The Premier league relegation fight, which I predicted was a three horse race less than three weeks ago has now suddenly opened up.

On the 20th March Blackburn Rovers won at home against Sunderland, at this point the media were only to willing to comment on the remarkable work carried out by Steve Kean under such fan pressure to now have his team five points clear of the bottom three.  But since that game Blackburn have lost all five matches and now find themselves second from bottom and three points adrift.  They now will be looking to gain points from home matches with Norwich City & Wigan to avoid the dreaded drop.

Wigan on the other hand on the 2nd March lost at home to Swansea and I wrote them off, without a win at home since August and only nine points on the road I could not see how they could have any hope.  But since then they have amassed eleven points from a possible twenty one with results against Liverpool & Manchester United.  Sadly I still predict it will be a effort in vain as they have to visit the Emirates, Craven Cottage & host the inform champions league chasing Newcastle United.  If they could mange to gain any points then they do play Blackburn & Wolverhampton Wanderers in their last two matches.  But personally I don't fancy their chances sadly.

Local neighbours Bolton also find themselves firmly planted in the relegation zone and face a very tough fight to survive.  Inconsistance has blighted the Wanderers season and the inability to string together successive wins has left them sadly at the wrong end of the table.  Their main hopes will be pinned on home results but having to play Tottenham & West Brom is going to be a severe test.

Another team I had written off but have still given themselves a chance is QPR,  wins at home to Liverpool, Arsenal & Swansea have put them out of the bottom three.  Sadly looking at their run in it might only be a fleeting glimpse of hope.  Having to face Tottenham, Chelsea, Stoke & finish at Manchester City will leave them very close to the bottom three come the final day.

The only conclusion is that we will be in for another entertaining final day with many twists and turns thorough the final ninety minutes.  Four teams fighting to avoid the last two spots it is sure to be a good days football.
