Back to business

After a week off for myself on holiday my focus now returns to this weekend’s action in the premier league.  This weekend has some interesting fixtures and features most of the teams in the relegation battle and a group of very short priced favourites.

Arsenal V Norwich

FORM GUIDE

ARSENAL                               NORWICH

W W W W L                            D L D D L

Arsenal come into the match in good recent form winning five of their last six with their only defeat coming away to local rivals Tottenham.  In contrast Norwich recently have drawn four of their last six matches.  These draws have kept Norwich close to the bottom half of the league.  Goals have been the main problem for Norwich this season and because of this they have had to improve their defence.  I backing Arsenal to win but it may well be by a close margin.

Aston Villa V Fulham

FORM GUIDE

ASTON VILLA                                 FULHAM

W L W W L                                      L W W D W

A few weeks ago Aston Villa looked dead and buried but with some recent wins and other results going in their favour they now find themselves with a very reasonable chance of survival.  Fulham have achieved mid table security and now find themselves with little to play for.  They struggled at stages this campaign but once again have found safety thanks to their home form.  Both of these teams are probably in their best form of the season currently.  Aston Villa have only lost two of their last six these matches came against Manchester City & Liverpool.  Whilst Fulham have only lost one of their last six.  The most consistent part of these teams in goals and that is what I am siding with on this match.

Everton V QPR

FORM GUIDE

EVERTON                               QPR

D W W L W                              D L L W W

Everton have been in great form recently and they will need to maintain this until the end of the season if they are to secure a European place.  With just one defeat in their last six matches they will be fairly confident coming up against QPR.  Sadly for QPR they have just entered a slight form dip after managing to get themselves back with touching distance of their rivals.  Two defeats and a draw for QPR now leaves them with a major task if they are to avoid relegation.  Both of these two teams have strong trends for both teams scoring and I will be siding with goals and a home victory in this match.

Reading V Liverpool

FORM GUIDE

READING                                        LIVERPOOL

L L L L L                                           D W L W W

Few now giving Reading a chance of survival in the league after their defeat at home last weekend against Southampton.  I did not believe Nigel Adkins would keep Reading up only due to the fact he was facing a limited amount of matches and no transfer window to make any squad changes.  Reading have not won any of their last five matches whilst Liverpool have only lost once in their last five which came away at Southampton.  Again both of these teams have scored and conceded goals regularly this season and I siding with an away win and a few goals.

Southampton V West Ham

FORM GUIDE

SOUTHAMPTON                          WEST HAM

W W W D L                                    D W L W L

Southampton have placed themselves in a great position after recent results to avoid relegation.  Just over a month ago I thought they would be in trouble with matches to come against Manchester City, Liverpool & Chelsea.  But after beating all of these three teams and only losing one of their last five matches they are now truly a team in form in the premier league.  Their opponents West Ham have stuttered recently but have managed to claim enough points to reach safety.  The back bone of their points have come at home this season and if they are to improve next season gaining points on their travels is a must.  But even with this in mind they have been hard to break down and most of their away matches have been close hard fought contests.  I backing Southampton to come away with something from this match but the most likely result could well be a draw.
