SUNDAY 30th DECEMBER
Sunday brings up two intriguing fixtures in the premier league with teams in very contrasting situations.
First up is Everton playing hosts to the goal crazy Chelsea in a battle for champions league positions. Everton currently sit in sixth whilst Chelsea are fourth two points better off and with a game in hand. Looking at the teams Everton have won three drawn four and lost one of their last eight matches. But after a period of draws the toffees now appear to be returning to winning ways. Their only problem ahead of tomorrow's match is the suspended Fellani. He has been a pivotal figure in their matches and also a major goal threat. Chelsea come into the match with three wins, three draws and two defeats. But noticeably the three wins have been in their most recent matches. People have been drawn to Chelsea by their recent high scoring wins but should also note their Benitez style one nil win at Norwich. The head to head contest shows Everton have won three and drawn two of the last five matches between them at Goodison in the league. Also Rafa Benitez has a good managerial record at Goodison, I would suggest goals in this match and may have to favour the home side if I was to select a winner.
The second match pits struggling QPR against an indifferent Liverpool, on boxing day I suggested QPR could get a result at home against West Brom. This didn't happen but they put a great effort trying to get vital points. Liverpool showed signs of poor organisation and sloppiness against Stoke and if they don't improve they could struggle again. Under Redknapp QPR have drawn three won one and lost two. Whilst Liverpool have have won four and lost three of their last seven. Whilst on their travels Liverpool have won two, lost two and drawn two of their last eight . Historically this match leads in Liverpool favour with three wins to two. This match is very unpredictable as both teams are inconsistent. Again I would lean towards goals in this match and with Loftus road being a small compact pitch it will be easier for the hosts to close down Liverpool, something they struggled with on boxing day. This is going to be a test of both teams character and desire for the win, but I would suggest if QPR don't get the three points I believe their survival hopes are fading rapidly.
