After a successful Saturday for the preview blog we now move on to a very interesting set of Sunday fixtures in the premier league. Seeing three of the top four in action and as the chasing pack close in slightly none of these teams will want to drop any points.
The early kick off sees Arsenal travel across London to Stamford bridge, Chelsea are the epitome of inconsistency in the premier league currently. Throwing away a two nil lead at home against Southampton was a complete different performance from the team that managed a four nil win at the Britannia stadium against Stoke. The inconsistency of the Chelsea team is shown by their recent form guide, won two lost two and drawn one shows you just can't be sure which team will turn up on Sunday. At home Chelsea have only won one of their last seven, a record that would have been unthinkable in recent years. Surely this form must be contributed to by the fans negative attitude towards Rafa Benitez. The visitors are hardly a model of consistency either with two wins, two draws and one defeat in their last five. But a look at their away form in the league shows they are undefeated in their last five matches. Boosted by the news of Theo Walcott signing a new contract the visitors will go into this match believing they can get a result. Looking at the goals records for these teams Arsenal have scored in eight of their last ten away matches. Chelsea on the other hand have failed to score in three of their last five home matches. The Chelsea trend seems to be either no goals or three plus scored. Historically there has been two in more goals in the last six times these teams have played at Stamford bridge. And in five out of the last seven times they have met both teams have scored. Overall I would suggesting we should seeing at least a couple of goals and I wouldn't be surprised if this game finished as a draw.
The late game sees Tottenham host Manchester United, in the first meeting this season Tottenham managed to gain a surprise victory at Old Trafford. Their attacking intent and use of pace on the counter attack through Bale & Lennon gave the Manchester United defence real problems. Tottenham come into the match undefeated in their last seven matches and winning five of these matches. Their home record is much the same with four wins in the last five matches, this improvement has come since the introduction of two strikers. Early in the season Tottenham struggled at home when playing Defoe up front on his own. Teams flooded the middle of the park and this caused some real surprising results. The visitors are undefeated in their last ten matches and boast winning nine of these ten matches. Looking at the goal record United have scored in nine of their last ten away matches and have averaged over two goals per game on the road. Looking at the historical record Manchester United are undefeated in their last five visits to White Hart Lane. My selection for this match will be a win for Manchester United and also a few goals in this match as well.
Thanks for reading and good luck to everyone !!!
