Goals on Sunday....

After a very successful day for the blog we now move on to Sundays fixtures and two matches that before I start to look heavily into make me believe they should contain goals.  These fixtures contain teams that are fighting it out at the top end of the premier league and cannot afford to drop points at this vital stage.

WEST BROM v TOTTENHAM

It is funny how things can change so quickly in the premier league but both of these teams have quickly gone from being in form to suddenly stuttering and in need of points.  West Brom started the season brightly and collected a lot of unexpected points.  People were quick to comment on what a great manager Steve Clarke was and his links with Jose Mourinho were regularly mentioned.  But recently that form has deserted the baggies and they are now without a win in five and slow sliding down the table.  Losing three of their last five overall and conceding seven goals really has dampened the excitement around the Hawthorns.  Normally when a teams form starts to drop they look for the comfort of home, sadly for West Brom they have lost two and drawn two of their last five at home.  They face a Tottenham team that themselves have dropped from the standards they were achieving during December.  With just one win in their last five that coming against Coventry in the cup Spurs are also struggling for confidence.  Looking at their away form this season they have not lost to a team outside of the top six in the league since the opening day of the season.  The main bonus for Spurs this season is they have only failed to score once away from home this season this coming in the derby with QPR.  Looking at the historical record Spurs have only lost two of their last ten trips to West Brom with the score draw being the dominant result.  Overall I will be opting for goals in this match and believe Spurs should come away from this match with something.

MANCHESTER CITY v LIVERPOOL

Unusually for Manchester City January was a quite month in the transfer window, I for one thought they may well have delved into the market if only to add momentum and freshen the squad.  They come into this match in excellent form and as always boast a fantastic home record.  With four wins in the last five matches overall and a home record of four wins from five.  And during these four wins all have seen City keep a clean sheet as well.  Many pointed out the defensive problems City had at the start of the season but few have mentioned recently how they have turned this problem around.  They face a Liverpool team that are in indifferent form of late with two wins, two defeats and one draw in the last five.  Their away record is also identical with the most obvious consistent being they have scored in all of these matches.  All of Liverpool's last five matches have seen three goals or more.  Another trend during these last five matches is that one goal has been scored inside the first twenty minutes.  I believe both of these teams forwards will cause problems to the oppositions defence.  Both struggle against pace and mobile forwards.  This makes me believe the likelihood of a penalty will be very high.  I will be again backing goals in this match and sadly can't see beyond a Manchester City victory.

Thanks for reading and good lucky to everyone !!!
