Poles Apart

After a successful Sunday for the blog it now moves on to focus on the last premier league match of the weekend.   And in truth it could hardly feature two teams further apart in the league table.

Aston Villa V Man City

Both of these teams require the maximum points on offer from this fixture for their own personal targets.  Aston Villa have the chance to capitalise on the defeats suffered by fellow strugglers Southampton & Wigan.  Whilst Manchester City require the points to stay within a reasonable gap of Manchester United.  They must hope to stay in contact and look to upset the odds at Old Trafford in April and wait in hope that United slip up again.  Both of these teams have been in better form at periods of the season, Villa have just one win in their last five whilst City have only won twice in five.  One bonus for Villa is the have found the goal in all of their last five matches but face a tough task against a City defence that has kept three clean sheets in their last five.

RECENT FORM GUIDE

Aston Villa

Last five Overall

  • W1 D1 L3
  • Average goals scored 1.6
  • Average goals conceded 2

Last five at Home

  • W3 D0 L2
  • Average goals scored 1.4
  • Average goals conceded 1.2

Man City

Last five overall

  • W2 D2 L1
  • Average goals scored 1.8
  • Average goals conceded 1

Last five away

  • W3 D1 L1
  • Average goals scored 1.6
  • Average goals conceded 1.2
Overall I would anticipate Manchester City taking away some points from Villa Park but I wouldn't be surprised if it was just one and not the three they require.
